Part 1 - The Building

An Overview Of The Sovereign House Apartment

  • The Sovereign House Apartment is located on The Terrace just above the harbour and close to central Torquay. The building was originally a single private residence and has now been subdivided into apartments.
  • The property address is Apartment 12, Sovereign House, The Terrace, Torquay TQ1 1DE
  • There are entrances to the property from The Terrace at the front and from the car park at the rear of the property.
  • The apartment is duplex in style. Living space is on the ground floor and the bedrooms and bathroom are on the lower ground floor. These are connected by a stair case.

Getting to The Sovereign House House Apartment

  • Torquay’s mainline railway station is approx 3/4 mile away. Most train journeys will involve a change at either Exeter or Newton Abbot although there are a limited number of direct trains each day. There is a taxi rank at the station which has taxis available whilst train services operate. Most services are operated by Great Western Railways.
  • The coach station is approx 1.25 miles away. There are numerous coach services from a number of different places. Services are largely operated by National Express. Taxis are available from the coach station.
  • The nearest bus stop is less than 400 yards away on Torquay harbourside. Frequent bus services run to and from Babbacombe and St Marychurch as well as Teignmouth and Dawlish.
  • There is an excellent high frequency bus service to other parts of  our Bay area and bus services link up to other towns such as Totnes, Exeter and Plymouth. Services are generally operated by Stagecoach. These are  accessed via stops on the harbourside which is 400 yards from the apartments.
  • Local taxis are plentiful. Special access taxis can also be arranged. Our taxi drivers are happy to meet the needs of passenger with special requirements and even short journeys are not a problem. Please click here for further transport information.

Arrival and parking facilities At Sovereign House

  • The car park for the apartment is located at the rear of the building and is marked "12". It is directly outside the gate to the car park . The car park is level to the road.
  • A key pad gives access to the car park. The surface of the car park is block paved and flat and there is lighting at night.
  • Additional spaces are available on the road nearby. Some of this parking is subject to restrictions and/or charges.
  • From the car park there are two steps down to a tiled pathway that leads to the rear entrance. There is a hand rail either side of this walkway.
  • The main entrance at the front of the property has a number of steps up to the front door and once inside there are stairs up to the apartment.
  • There is an elevator in the building.
  • Guests normally gain access to the building via keys located in a key box.
  • We can meet guests at the property by prior arrangement. This is subject to our availability.

  • From the car park at the rear  entry via a door with yale lock.
  • Hallway has movement sensor lights
  • Hallway is carpeted and there are two sets of two steps down to the apartment. These are approx. 15 cm high each.
  • The door to the apartment is the first on the left. 

 

The Apartment At Sovereign House Details

  • The width of the doorway into the apartment is approx 95cm and all subsequent doorways are the same..
  • There is wooden flooring throughout the ground floor. There is level access between kitchen and living room and two steps down to dining area.
  • There is a staircase down to the bedrooms and bathroom. There are three steps down with a quarter turn, a further three with a quarter turn and a final seven steps. These steps are each approx 15cm high.
  • The hallways and bedrooms on the lower floor are carpeted as are the stairs.
  • There is a step down into the bathroom.
  • The bathroom has a tiled floor and has a large shower with a low profile, a toilet and a wash basin.
  • There is access to a courtyard from the second bedroom.
  • The main bedroom has a king sized bed and the second bedroom has two singles.
  • The apartment has gas central heating which guests can control via a thermostat in the kitchen area..

For Guests With Mobility Restrictions

  • We are happy to assist with luggage on arrival and departure.
  • From Shop Mobility we can obtain mobility aids such as wheel chairs or scooters. (There is normally a small charge for the use of these.). 
  • We can direct guests to appropriate access information for places to visit or for eating etc.

 

For Guests With Visual Impairments   

  • We have good colour contrasting in our fixtures and fittings of our rooms.
  • We Have good lighting.
  • We Can offer large print copies of our own materials.

For Guests with Hearing Impairments

  • We ensure that we speak clearly to help guests lip read.
  • We can direct the guest to written information
  • We have teletext and subtitles on our TVs

For Guests With Families

  • The apartment has two bedrooms.
  • Main bedroom has a king sized bed.
  • Second bedroom  has a zip and link bed which can be configured as a super king or as two singles. We can also provide a cot (We charge £5 per night for this). 
  • There is access to a courtyard from the second bedroom.

 

For Guests With Bronchitis and Breathing Difficulties

  • We use as standard non feather bedding.
  • We maintain high standards of cleaning in the rooms and have regular scheduled deep cleans.
  • No smoking is permitted in the property.
  • No pets are permitted in the property.

 

For Guests With Food Allergies Or Special Diets

We are happy to make provision for guests with allergies or special diets and can arrange for food to be delivered in advance of our guests’ arrival.

 

For Guests With Assistance Dogs

We can accommodate official assistance dogs in all of the apartments. We do not make any additional charge for assistance dogs. 

 

For Guests With Other Specific Requirements

We are able to make some adaptations to rooms to accommodate special equipment. For example we have adapted rooms to accommodate portable dialysis units and have stored fluid for guests in advance of arrival.
